Family nurse practitioners (FNPs) are advanced practice nurses who can work in various settings, from hospitals to clinics to doctor’s offices. They can care for patients of all ages, including infants and older adults. FNPs are highly trained advanced practice nurses, but their scope of practice is dictated by the state where they are licensed. In 2022, New York began granting full practice authority to experienced NPs with over 3,600 hours of practice.

Nurses wishing to pursue a degree as an FNP in New York have many options, including master’s degrees, doctorates, and post-graduate certificates. Here are some programs for nurses at various points in their careers.
